Continuing its operations at the Koh Kong LNG Power Plant and Terminal Project in Cambodia, Vietnam Global Transport Corporation (VGT) is carrying out Shipment 4, comprising four equipment units with a combined weight of 960 tonnes. The scope covers transportation from Sihanoukville Port to the project site, combining barge transport with specialized heavy-haul trailers.

Four Equipment Units, with the Heaviest Weighing 420 Tonnes

Shipment 4 comprises a 420-tonne gas turbine, a 310-tonne generator stator, a 160-tonne steam turbine and a 70-tonne generator rotor. Given the substantial weight of these power generation components, the transport arrangements are tailored to each unit, from equipment selection to the organization of on-site transportation.

Barge Transportation from Sihanoukville to the Project

At Sihanoukville Port, VGT receives the four equipment units and arranges their loading onto one barge. The cargo is then transported to the jetty within the LNG project area, where load-in and subsequent on-site transportation take place.

Using a single barge for the entire shipment connects the port handling plan with the cargo handling sequence at the destination. For this 960-tonne consignment, coordination between the barge and specialized trailer configurations is essential to maintaining continuity across the transport stages.

Dedicated Transport Arrangements for Each Equipment Unit

At the project jetty, VGT carries out load-in from the barge to shore, followed by transportation into the site and cargo set-down. Trailer configurations are assigned to suit each unit, with the gas turbine and generator stator representing the two heaviest loads.

420-Tonne Gas Turbine: Transportation by Nicolas Trailer

The 420-tonne gas turbine is transported into the site using a Nicolas trailer. As the heaviest unit in Shipment 4, this movement requires close coordination between the transport configuration, route conditions and field operations.

310-Tonne Generator Stator: 24 Goldhofer Axle Lines in a Side-by-Side Configuration

For the 310-tonne generator stator, VGT deploys 24 Goldhofer axle lines in a side-by-side configuration for transportation into the site. This arrangement forms part of the unit-specific transport plan, connecting jetty handling with the project’s internal transport route.

160-Tonne Steam Turbine and 70-Tonne Generator Rotor: 12 Goldhofer Axle Lines

The remaining two units are transferred from the barge to shore using a 12-axle-line Goldhofer configuration. Together with the Nicolas trailer and the 24-axle-line Goldhofer side-by-side arrangement, this configuration forms the transport equipment fleet serving all four units in the shipment.

Moving Equipment into the Plant Area

Following the waterborne transport leg, VGT’s scope continues with on-site transportation and cargo set-down. This stage connects transport operations with equipment positioning within the project area and requires coordination between the transport crews and other teams working in the same location.

Continuing Project Logistics Operations at Koh Kong LNG

Through Shipment 4, VGT continues to undertake an integrated scope of work, from receiving equipment at Sihanoukville Port to transportation and set-down at the Koh Kong LNG project site. The combination of barge transport, Nicolas trailers and Goldhofer configurations reflects a transport approach tailored to the requirements of each cargo unit and each stage of the operation.

The 960-tonne shipment represents another significant transport assignment within VGT’s involvement in the project, demonstrating its scope of oversized and heavy cargo transportation services for energy developments in Cambodia.
