VIETNAM GLOBAL TRANSPORT CORPORATION (VGT) is proud to have successfully delivered a turnkey transportation service for one of the largest key energy projects in Central Vietnam today: the Vung Ang 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant (total capacity 1,330MW).
The project is strategically located in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, Vung Ang Ward, Ha Tinh Province, and is invested by Vung Ang II Thermal Power Limited Liability Company (VAPCO). Serving as the strategic logistics partner of leading international contractor DOOSAN ENERBILITY, alongside KWANGJIN TLS, VGT once again affirmed its leading position in multimodal transportation of oversized and overweight cargo (Project Logistics & Heavy Lifts) in Vietnam.
For a mega-project with stringent technical standards and a demanding schedule like Vung Ang 2, VGT demonstrated outstanding capabilities by providing a turnkey solution covering customs clearance, long-haul transportation, and precise installation onto foundations.
Multimodal oversized & overweight transportation – Absolute safety
VGT undertook the entire transportation process for imported and domestic cargo, machinery and equipment, from key maritime gateways including Hai Phong Port and Vung Ang Port to the project site.
The highlight that affirmed the outstanding capabilities of VGT’s engineering team and specialized equipment fleet was the successful transportation of the project’s extraordinary out-of-gauge (OOG) heavy-lift units, most notably:
- 02 Generator Step-Up Transformers (GSUT): weighing up to 403 tons per unit;
- 02 Generator Stators: weighing up to 343 tons per unit.
To move these multi-hundred-ton loads safely across public roads, VGT’s engineers conducted in-depth technical surveys and detailed assessments of the load-bearing capacity of road and bridge infrastructure, then mobilized specialized vehicles together with dedicated hydraulic modular trailers to optimize the transport plan.
Skidding & installation onto foundations
Going beyond transportation, VGT’s turnkey service also provided high-precision heavy-lift installation solutions. At the Vung Ang 2 site, VGT’s experienced specialists directly carried out:
- The skidding operation, successfully installing the super-heavy GSUT transformers from the transport vehicles onto their foundations with absolute safety;
- Precise technical alignment in strict accordance with structural design documents and the manufacturer’s standards, ensuring the equipment was in perfect condition and ready for connection and commissioning.
Comprehensive customs & legal solutions
Completing the end-to-end supply chain, VGT’s customs services helped the client thoroughly resolve schedule challenges and optimize costs:
- Surveying, advising and handling the complete import duty exemption procedures for the project’s entire list of goods and equipment;
- Managing seamless import customs clearance for 100% of the equipment, machinery and materials serving construction, keeping cargo flowing continuously without disrupting the overall site schedule.
