VIETNAM GLOBAL TRANSPORT CORPORATION (VGT) continues to affirm its position as the preferred logistics partner for national-scale energy projects, having excellently completed a chain of specialized technical logistics services at the Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant.
The project, with a capacity of 1,320MW, is located in the Van Phong Economic Zone, Dong Ninh Hoa Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, and is invested by Van Phong Power Company Limited (VPCL). What makes this project special is the convergence of the world’s leading industrial and technology corporations serving as general and main contractors, including TOSHIBA ENERGY SYSTEMS & SOLUTIONS CORPORATION, IHI CORPORATION, DOOSAN ENERBILITY and CTCI.
Being selected to provide an integrated supply chain solution for such a demanding international contractor consortium is clear proof of the globally standardized capabilities of the VGT team.
Multimodal transport connectivity from maritime gateways
With the project located in Central Vietnam’s dynamic coastal economic zone, VGT established and operated a flexible multimodal transport network to connect cargo flows. We undertook the reception, coordination and safe transportation of all imported cargo from Ho Chi Minh Port and Van Phong Port, as well as domestic cargo from the Doosan Vina factory in Dung Quat Economic Zone, all the way to the foot of the works.
The most challenging scope was the successful transportation of the plant’s oversized and overweight components: 02 Generator Step-Up Transformers (GSUT) weighing up to 340 tons per unit. By applying rigorous route-engineering calculations, optimal load distribution across hydraulic trailer axles, and tight control of the long barge voyage from Ho Chi Minh Port to Van Phong, VGT brought these “hearts” of the plant safely to the site, precisely meeting the milestones committed to the Japanese and Korean contractors.
Precision rigging and positioning
While the transportation phase demanded macro-level infrastructure engineering, positioning the GSUT transformers onto their foundations tested the micro-level precision of VGT’s engineers.
Meeting the ultra-stringent technical standards of VPCL and DOOSAN, VGT’s specialists executed the skidding solution, moving the 340-ton transformer systems into their operating positions. Coordinate and elevation alignment was performed meticulously to the millimeter in accordance with the design documents, ensuring optimal balance and absolute structural stability before the equipment entered the electrical testing phase.
Project customs management – Legal optimization
In parallel with the technical work on site, VGT acted as the “legal architect” for the entire flow of imported cargo serving construction, through professional end-to-end services:
- Representing and supporting the client in handling the complete specialized procedures to obtain import duty exemption for the project’s equipment list;
- Taking responsibility for seamless import customs clearance for the project’s entire volume of materials, mechanical machinery and control systems, completely eliminating the risk of procedural delays at the border gates and optimizing tax costs for the partners.
A message from VGT
The success at the Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power project is not merely a business milestone, but a strong affirmation that VGT fully possesses the capabilities, professionalism and management systems to meet the technical and safety standards of Fortune Global 500 multinational corporations. True to our action slogan: “With us the load seems smaller” — every project logistics challenge has an optimal solution when accompanied by VGT.
VGT sincerely thanks the Investor VPCL together with our partners TOSHIBA, IHI, DOOSAN ENERBILITY and CTCI for giving us the opportunity to contribute our capabilities to the completion of this international-caliber energy project.
