With operations taking place in a dense urban environment, many project components required dedicated transport solutions, specialized equipment and close coordination among multiple on-site teams.

As part of the project, VGT organized the transportation of several critical items, including Metro train cars, tunnel boring machine (TBM) components, elevated guideway girders, precast concrete components and other technical equipment used for construction. These are all cargoes with large dimensions, heavy weight, high value and strict control requirements throughout every stage, from receipt, lifting, lashing and transportation to final handover.

Scope of Work

VGT implemented the transportation works as a continuous operation chain from ports, storage yards and construction sites to the designated handover locations according to the project plan. Each cargo item was surveyed, calculated and assigned a specific transport method to suit its technical characteristics, site conditions and project schedule.

The main scope of work included:

Receipt and transportation of Metro train cars.

Transportation of TBM components and related equipment.

Transportation of girders and precast concrete components for the elevated Metro section.

Lifting, lashing, securing and protecting cargo during transportation.

Coordination of prime movers, multi-axle hydraulic modular trailers, specialized cranes and on-site personnel.

Organization of daytime or nighttime transportation depending on route conditions, safety requirements and construction schedules.

Transportation of Metro Train Cars

Metro train cars are long, oversized and high-value cargoes that require strict protection during transportation. Before implementation, the technical team surveyed the receiving area, lifting position, movement direction of the prime mover, turning radius, overhead clearance and storage area.

The train cars were lifted using specialized lifting systems combined with cables, lifting beams and controlled lifting points. The process of lowering the cargo onto multi-axle hydraulic trailers was carried out slowly and precisely, with close coordination between the crane team, traffic coordination team, signal personnel and safety team.

After the train cars were stably positioned on the trailers, the operation team inspected the support points, lashing system, load balance and final preparations before movement. The multi-axle trailer system helped distribute the load evenly, reduce vibration and ensure cargo stability on technically demanding routes.

Transportation of TBM Components

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) is one of the project’s specialized technical equipment systems, featuring complex structures, large dimensions and heavy weight. TBM parts, especially the cutterhead and mechanical components with special shapes, required dedicated transport solutions to ensure absolute equipment safety.

For this cargo group, route survey and technical planning played a critical role. The implementation team evaluated the overall dimensions, center of gravity, support points, lashing method, vehicle load capacity and urban route conditions.

During transportation, TBM components were placed on specialized trailers or multi-axle hydraulic modular trailers to distribute the load evenly and improve stability during movement. The cargo was lashed, reinforced and continuously inspected to minimize shifting, vibration or collision during transport.

Some TBM components were transported at night to reduce the impact on urban traffic and allow the convoy to move more smoothly through narrow roads, intersections, central areas and locations surrounded by urban infrastructure. Lighting, warning signals, route coordination and safety control were maintained throughout the entire transportation process.

Transportation of Elevated Guideway Girders and Precast Concrete Components

In addition to Metro train cars and TBM equipment, VGT also participated in transporting precast concrete components, girders and other items used for the elevated Metro section. These cargoes are long, require high stability and must be delivered precisely to positions beneath launching gantries or construction areas according to the project plan.

At the site, the components were transported by prime movers combined with specialized trailers. Moving the cargo into the lifting position required accurate coordination among drivers, signal teams, technical personnel and safety staff. Vehicles had to move slowly, follow precise guidance and maintain safe distances from piers, launching equipment, surrounding structures and ground personnel.

Due to limited construction space in urban areas, the transportation of girders and elevated-section components required strict control over the route, turning radius, height clearance, parking position, lifting point and storage area. Every movement was carefully calculated to ensure the cargo was positioned correctly without affecting nearby structures or the overall project schedule.

Route Survey and Transport Planning

Before transportation, VGT conducted comprehensive surveys of the site and transport routes. The survey included checking the cargo receiving area, lifting conditions, crane positioning, prime mover parking position, trailer access, turning radius, overhead clearance, road load capacity and potential risk points that could affect transportation.

Based on the survey data, the technical team developed suitable transport plans for each cargo item. These plans covered vehicle selection, lifting equipment, support layout, lashing method, movement plan, personnel arrangement, safety measures and contingency plans.

Detailed planning helped control risks, optimize operations and ensure that cargo was transported on schedule and in compliance with the technical requirements of the project.

Lifting, Lashing and Safety Control

All cargo items in the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro Line 1 Project required strict control during lifting and lashing operations. During each operation, the site team had to simultaneously control multiple factors such as cargo center of gravity, lifting points, balance, support positions, load distribution on trailers and safety clearance around the work area.

After the cargo was positioned on the transport vehicle, lashing and securing were carried out according to the approved method statement. Lashing points, chains, tensioners, support blocks, anti-slip materials and protective layers were carefully inspected before the convoy started moving.

Throughout transportation, the technical team and coordination personnel continuously monitored cargo condition, vehicle stability, route conditions and surrounding safety factors. Stopping, turning, alignment and delivery operations were all performed based on unified signals to minimize operational risks.

Transportation in Complex Urban Conditions

One of the major challenges of the project was the transportation of oversized and heavy-lift cargo in an urban environment. The routes involved high traffic density, surrounding buildings, limited maneuvering space and strict safety requirements.

To meet these requirements, VGT organized transportation based on carefully prepared plans, with coordination personnel positioned at critical points, on-site guidance teams, warning equipment, lighting systems and support plans for difficult route sections.

For cargo items with large dimensions or potential impact on traffic, nighttime transportation was applied to reduce traffic density, allow smoother movement of the convoy and ensure safety for both cargo and the surrounding area.

Cargo Handover at Construction Sites and Storage Yards

Upon arrival at the designated location, the cargo was unloaded at storage yards, moved into construction areas or coordinated with specialized lifting equipment for installation support. The handover process was carried out in accordance with the approved technical sequence, including inspection of cargo condition, placement position, support points and safety conditions before completion.

The handover process required not only on-time delivery but also assurance that the equipment was free from collision, displacement, deformation or any impact on quality during transportation. This was especially important for high-value equipment such as Metro train cars, TBM components and technical structures used for the elevated section.

Key Technical Requirements of the Project

The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro Line 1 Project required specialized transport capabilities for multiple cargo groups. Key technical requirements included:

Surveying transport routes, receiving areas and handover locations before transportation.

Developing dedicated technical plans for each cargo type, including Metro train cars, TBM components, elevated guideway girders and precast concrete components.

Using high-powered prime movers, specialized trailers and multi-axle hydraulic modular trailers.

Balancing loads, controlling the center of gravity and ensuring cargo stability throughout transportation.

Carrying out lifting operations with specialized cranes, launching equipment and suitable support systems.

Lashing, securing and protecting cargo according to technical requirements.

Coordinating signal personnel, safety teams, operation teams and related parties on site.

Organizing daytime or nighttime transportation depending on route conditions and project requirements.

Handing over cargo at the designated location, on schedule and in safe condition.

VGT’s Project Cargo Execution Capability

With its complex nature, multiple technical cargo groups and strict control requirements, the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro Line 1 Project is a strong demonstration of VGT’s capability in project logistics and oversized, heavy-lift transportation.

Every stage, from survey, planning and vehicle arrangement to lifting, lashing, transportation and handover, was organized under a strict control process. Close coordination among technical teams, operation teams, safety personnel and related stakeholders helped ensure progress, quality and safety throughout the entire implementation.

Through the transportation of Metro train cars, TBM components, elevated guideway girders and other specialized project equipment, VGT continued to demonstrate its experience in handling large, heavy, high-value and technically complex cargoes.

The project not only highlights VGT’s capability in transporting oversized and heavy-lift cargo in urban environments, but also reinforces its role as a trusted logistics partner for major transportation infrastructure, industrial, energy and construction projects.

The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro Line 1 Project is one of Ho Chi Minh City’s key urban railway infrastructure projects, requiring highly specialized capabilities in the receipt, lifting,…

[41

post-2145","project","type-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","project_category-other-equipment
["GET
